Launching the Imagination
123-135
I'm not saying at all that I'm a great artist because I fit the
characteristics, but many of them fit me. I won't list every one that applies, but I'll say a few. It's very true that I'll spend many hours on as project because I lose track of time. I get very devoted to it, and I do like to be alone when I get into it (one reason I don't like working in the Mac lab). Even with the data visualization, I had a project that could have been done, but I didn't like it, and I completely started over. That was a day's worth of work thrown out.
With the goal-setting, I just seem to work differently. I don't tell myself that I am an artist, creative, or that I write well. It may sound harsh, but I think the opposite. I like to disprove myself. I hardly think of myself as having great ideas, but I'll get into a project, and it somehow works out. Don't ask me how, because I don't know. (Remember how I was talking about good problems? It's like that!)

I like how it talks about a problem being a good thing. I agree with it. A lot of times, I'll criticize my own art. People might think I'm just being negative about it, when really I'm thinking how I could have done it better. It helps me to seek out what's wrong with it so I can improve it. That's why I like it when someone honestly tells me if something could be better in it.. It really helps!

What's funny is that I never realized that media is the plural form of medium! I'm glad I read this before I've used the word "mediums." At least, I don't think I have. I don't know how I didn't know that.. It makes sense.
I might have snippets of thoughts for this blog post.. I have a headache.
So- random thoughts begin-
I think it's true on page 230 where it talks about watching shows is social, whether with someone or by yourself. It's really no fun to watch a show that nobody else watches-- which is why I'm on Pinterest. Not many of my friends watch Doctor Who, or they aren't as enthusiastic about it as I am. Doctor Who is HUGELY popular on the internet, so... That's where I go.
Also, on page 252, it says that on 9/11, "[One plane crashed] into rural Pennsylvania and one into the U.S. Pentagon in Virginia." There was a hijacked plane headed for the Pentagon, but it was never hit.. (Again with these books..!) It does talk about how one plane missed Washington D.C, but makes it sound like the Pentagon was hit..
Alright, end of thoughts while reading!

Somehow a lot of my posts go back to Doctor Who. Interesting. Anyway, that page was talking about Chinese pirating Windows. This would make the Chinese more dependent on Windows, and after time, more would buy the software rather than steal it.
This reminded me of-- guess what-- when I first watched Doctor Who. I had no other way to watch the show other than finding the episodes that people downloaded and then uploaded online. I was watching the show without paying, or increasing the viewing statistics. Since I was able to watch it and become a huge fan, I've since bought DVD's (regularly $80 a series..), comic books, replicas, and have gotten more people to watch it! (And we have Netflix now! I wish we did then!!) So I completely understand how piracy can help in the long-run! (Not saying you should, but...!)

Yeah. I know! I can imagine my mom walking into my room to see that [[355]]

The things this section talks about is very similar to a photography class I had in high school, and is also close to why we're doing in Fine Arts this semester. In photography, we took pictures of things that would resemble repetition, variety, and others. In Fine Arts, we're cutting out black shapes and experimenting with the weights between black and white and how they create negative and positive space. The shapes also show how the different placements of the same shapes can make a picture look heavy, light, slow, or fast. I thought it was funny how similar the book is to that class.

Similar to what I've said previously, the meaning of art changes. In this section, it talks about how art that many have once been considered bad art, or "low class" really depends on the culture and personal preferences. Even an ad on TV meant for one culture can get many different reactions. I've been on a page proclaiming it to be one of the best ads made. In the comments, while there were people praising it, and having only great things to say about it, there were also those who said it was all wrong, the message became distorted, and should not have been shown on TV. Our cultures have become so diverse, it's impossible to please everyone!
It makes me think of YouTube videos like Charlie the Unicorn, and asdfmovie. It takes a weird sort of humor to enjoy them, and if you have it, they are hilarious. To other people, they are too weird and they can't watch it past 5 seconds (but I don't blame them for that either!). While I enjoy those videos, I also enjoy classical music. I don't think it's possible to accurately put people into specific groups of their preferences.

As I read the pages about color, it reminded me of a VSauce (YouTube channel) video called "This is not Yellow." As I went to watch it again after reading, I found that some of it was very similar to some things talked about in the book. The yellow you actually see on a screen contains no actual yellow. Screens output red, green, and blue. In the video, he explains how your brain thinks that a combination of red and green will look yellow. Having watched all his videos, I can think of other things he's said that relates to the chapter, but I believe they'd be all over. It really is an awesome channel, you should check it out!

I found it funny that in the reading of Lessig, it gave statistics of the internet in 2002. It said that 58% of people had access to the internet, as if that was a huge number! Today, I don't know one person who doesn't use the internet! My grandparents have a Facebook! You can't even enroll in WSU without using the internet, and most classes make use of it. This could include Angel, blogging (as seen.... HERE!!), or researching information for a paper. We don't go to the library for it anymore! I think if the world lost the internet for a week, we'd go crazy! Possibly.. Even a day. We're so dependent now!
